We are completing our study of chapter 12 this week and we will have a test on Thursday.
Monday: Complete class reading of chapter and do review questions (1-15) on page 397. Due on Tuesday at start of class.
Tuesday: Go over answers on review, complete vocabulary crossword puzzle. When both are complete students will work with a buddy to study for the test.
Wednesday: Class review and independent study of chapter 12.
Thursday: Chapter 12 test. Students must have personal reading book for after the test.
Friday: Introduction into the Greeks
Students that are absent should study on their own for the test.

Aztecs and Incas 1/24-1/28
Our exploration of the Aztecs and Incas begins this week. Students will be back in their regular textbooks.
1/24 Ch. 12-1 Aztecs reading and vocabulary, supplementary reading packet (in class only)
1/25 Class discussion on 12-1
1/26 Ch. 12-2 Inca reading and vocabulary
1/27 Ch. 12-2 class discussion 12-1
1/28 Ch. 12-3 N. American civilizations reading and vocabulary
Students that are absent should read the chapter and complete the vocabulary. Make sure you are able to answer the review questions in the lesson and the questions at the end of the lesson. Vocabulary is to be turned in.

Week of 1/18-1/21
Tuesday: Using a flip book students will review the AZ connections chapter in preparation for our test on Thursday.
Wednesday: Review for test and archaeology prep
Thursday: AZ connections test and preparation for archaeology field trip
Friday: Archaeology lesson and "excavation" activity
The only homework this week will be preparing for the Thursday quiz.
Field trip reminders: Students may wear jeans, and must wear closed toe shoes. Students will need to bring a sack lunch and water bottle. We will be outside for most of the dig so students may want a light jacket. Field trip dates are as follows:

Early Civilizations of AZ
This week, 1/10-1/14, will continue our focus on the early civilizations of Arizona.
Monday: Who were the Hohokams and Mogollon? Reading assignment; Early Desert People pg. 14-19, vocabulary from page 14, reading check questions and review questions, 1-5 & 7 on page 19.
Tuesday: Complete Early Desert People assignment and read text as a class and have a discussion.
Wednesday: Introduce vocabulary for the archaeology dig. Homework assignment, vocabulary worksheet due 1/14. Read the AZ history pack from Old Pueblo Archaeology.
Thursday: Ancestral Puebloans, Anasazi. Pg. 20-24. Read, vocab from page 20, reading check questions and review questions on page 24, 1-4 and 6.
Friday: Complete Thursday's assignment, read text as a class and discuss. Read pg. 25 biography.
Please note that due to the special textbooks used for this unit if a student is absent they will have to check out a textbook upon their return to complete the assignment. These textbooks can only be checked out over night and must be returned to Mrs. Bettenhausen before school the following day.
